Allanche the heart Cézallier between Monts Dore and the Monts du Cantal, has managed to preserve its environment and culture. Rich in history and heritage, the town offered to tourists looking for authenticity. The visitor will discover this city of enchantment washed houses covered with slate, located one thousand meters. With its walls seemed to defy time, the city retains its medieval appearance that is appreciated by strolling through its narrow streets lined old houses.
Allanche is no longer a rural market town, but in people's minds, it has long been a city. Allanche has walls from the middle of the fifteenth century and remains today a door and a few walls succeeding the fortified church and some old houses with spiral staircases.
Allanche also preserves the memory of some enemies valiantly and repulsed a major religious festival and pagan, that of St. John the Baptist, which was assiduously devoted the entire population. Earlier than others, Allanche had a corn exchange, a public fountain monitored by an Athena debonair then water and household electricity. The station opened in 1907, attracted the famous fairgrounds on its cattle fairs of Saint-Geraud which prevailed for a time, over those of Aurillac.
With its average altitude and the volcanic nature of its soil, Allanche Township is a farming region and conducive to transhumance grazing. The Feast of the mountain pasture, held the last weekend of May, perpetuates this tradition. Thousands of people from all over France and neighboring countries come to celebrate this event and accompany the animals on the vast plateaus Cézallier who populate so until October.
They are in the mountains of Cézallier, with burons that the walker can make long walks between gentian and licorice. In winter, these plates also lend themselves to the practice of skiing. Besides the pleasure of skiing and hiking, Allanche and its surroundings give rise to multiple activities: forest walks, fishing, hunting, gathering ... The cascade of Veyrines and Lake Fishing, two lovely places to relax, complete diversity of recreation in the vicinity of Allanche.
The antique fair and antiques, the first weekend of August, has a reputation beyond the borders of the hexagon. It remains a national meeting point for all the antique shops, antique dealers and lovers of authentic items, linens and furniture of the past. It gives rise to a parallel street entertainment which adds an extra charm to this town.
