July 27: flight to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah state on Borneo island in Malaysia. Phew ... is accurate enough thank you! (: It's fabulously clean throughout the country. Transportation as comfortable as in Canada. And prices are increasing enormously! There is a small place of backpackers; Step In Lodges. At this point, we find by chance a great blonde South African, Ian, who had met aboard the boat Perama, Indonesia. We enjoyed a good wine from southern Africa with him. The next day, Peter and Michelle will visit the city, search the markets while I was snoozing a little question to get back in shape. We visit the Cultural Village Monsopiaid. A Christian village of 300 years, very believer in spirits. A Malaysian traditional dance spectacle with "bamboo dance" which is pretty impressive to see. Their costumes are beautiful. One of the dancers also eat a nice living silkworm 3cm long and plump before us! Mmmm! Delicious! I should taste it! haha ... At dinner, guided by our friend Lonely Planet, we chose the Little Italy restaurant. What happiness, as much cheese in my pasta, seafood as in those of Michelle and what to say about the lasagna Peter ...
July 29: Day DIVE
is on the island of Mamutik I finish my Open Water. The visibility was not great but it's still impressive, marine life. We saw a black hippocampus, a porcupine fish (the one that swells with pics!), Full of Nemo, as usual, the lion fish and several other extraordinary species. In the evening memorable dinner in a fish market. With the ambiance of the Jean-Talon and local Foreigners are cotoyent, seated in the light of incandescent bulbs. Enveloped in the smoke of BBQ, we ate our tuna chunks, our tails and our chicken feet away from the right hand, without utensils. It was delicious, wonderful experience.
{It's time for the food! }
Shorter flight life. 30 minutes from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan. This is the beginning of our adventure in the jungle. We arrange all the Sepilok Jungle Resort. Nearby, a 5 minute walk, we went to the "Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. It's really funny to see, it seems that all joints are dislocated and they look very disproportionate. They went so near us! You could reach out and touch them if we wanted, but we did not really allowed.
Hornbill} {
In after-noon we went into 2 and a half hours drive to the resort Sepilok Wildlife Adventure near a river opaque pale brown color. Spacious room on Pillot, air conditioning and warm up in the jungle! 4:00 pm we go on boat see wildlife. Surprise! macaques, orang-utans, snake birds, birds and rhinoceros herds of elephants! And proboscis monkey also fabulous, funny animal. I would describe it, it's worth the effort. So it's a monkey with a nose-shaped balls, a big belly, they have gray legs and arms, one could imagine that they wear a sleeveless brown coat and white breeches, whose tail is the color The beige head but the face slightly darker, penis red and blue balls. Do not ask me what God had been drinking ...
{Nice view from below of a long-tailed macaque: P}
{last cruise, a magnificent sunset. } First day of August, we return to the River. A cute crocodiles (we do not swim!) And for a second time, we review the elephant has less than 5 m from us in an opening of the river, a small creek. They take their baths while we hide behind a tree fallen across the water. It was impressive and scary at the same time. During our hike of the day in the jungle, we stopped at a lake to eat in huge leaves freshly cut and folded to form a cone. We got a friend: Papillon. As big as the palm of my hand, he vennait easily arise for several minutes! In fact, what is wonderful is that all these animals are totally wild.
The fabulous journey of Gomantong Cave. A huge cave full of bats and swallows ... but also of cockroaches. And small crabs too! In short, a good test for me. The smell is foul. The bridge is slippery, there is a carpet of droppings beneath our feet (a chance I put my shoes!). And cockroaches .. it's everywhere. On the walls on the ground, on the bridge, on the ramps. And not just a few! No, no. They are hundreds, stuck together the rest, swarming everywhere, their shells under the bright sunlight. But I managed! I've been around! Michelle has asked to see the nests of swallows. Say that after several processes, ca eat! It sells at a price of crazy too: 5000 Rm / kg so about $ 1670 per kilo!
Three superb games, Marcos (English), Yvonne (Irish) and Federico (Italian). We organized a transport set up Semporna. Hoping to have good dinners with them!
{From left to right, Cassandra, Marcos, Michelle, Peter, Yvonne and Frederico. } It happens the fish!
